Biscuits, bars, cakes, chocolate... all delicious, all practically guaranteed to keep you coming back for more. We've heard a lot about food noise since the advent of weightloss jabs - and for many people, this 'noise' is never louder than when confronted by sugar.
If you've spent decades trying - and failing - to curb your sugar cravings, know that you're far from alone... our favourite wellbeing guru Liz Earle, 63, has just shared in an Instagram post that she has finally beaten the cravings that blighted her.
'Over the years, I’ve found that trying to fight cravings with willpower isn’t the answer,' says Liz. 'Instead, I focus on a few simple habits that help me feel satisfied and keep those “I NEED chocolate!” moments at bay.'
Cravings are 'not simply about self-discipline' she says to her podcast audience. And the bestselling author goes on to share the tricks that finally worked.
1. She stopped starting the day with sugar and opted for protein, healthy fats and fibre instead. 'This helps keep me feeling fuller for longer and it also helps avoid that blood-sugar rollercoaster that can leave you craving something sweet just a couple of hours later.'
2. She has good snacks ready before hunger strikes. 'Boiled eggs, chunks of cheese, olives, nuts, berries - these things actually fill you up.'
3. She carries healthy food with her. 'When I’m out and about, I always have something in my bag because this is where good intentions can go horribly wrong.
4. She drinks water - lots of it. 'I also keep well-hydrated - water, electrolytes... sometimes, what feels like a snack attack is actually thirst.'
5. She doesn't have tempting food in the house. 'My simplest tip: don’t buy the stuff you don’t want to eat. If biscuits and sweets aren’t sitting in the cupboard calling my name, I’m far less likely to eat them.'
